North & Midlands Railways Promise – Letter to the PM
Remember when David Cameron promised rail investment in the Midlands and North? (I know, it can be hard to believe but he did mention something *outside* of the M25!).
Well, these projects have mysteriously (although slightly predictably) been axed (sorry “paused”).
I’m with Labour on the ‘Don’t Pull the Plug’ campaign. Read my letter below – if you’re with me, join me and sign it.
During the election, you promised to electrify key rail lines in the Midlands and the North.
But despite five years of fare rises which your Ministers claimed would fund investment, two of the country’s most important rail projects have effectively been cancelled.
That’s why Labour is launching the Don’t Pull the Plug campaign, which calls on your Government to honour its promises and reinstate plans to electrify the Midland Main Line and the TransPennine route.
We want you to make a real and open commitment that your Government will deliver these projects within a clear and published timetable.
We’re also demanding that this Government comes clean on how the decision to ‘pause’ these projects was reached and exactly when Ministers knew that the electrification programme was in jeopardy.
You must be held accountable for your broken promises to the Midlands and the North.
